The High Weald Policy towards Gatwick can best be summed up as “No more noise” Gatwick has become a noisy neighbour. Aircraft noise is a non statutory nuisance, in other words it does not fall under the same legislation as other environmental noise. Given that the airlines and the airport have this freedom they must use their rights responsibly to fly as quietly as possible. That means giving individuals, businesses and communities respite. It means making the aircraft flying into Gatwick as quiet as possible and observing silent hours so that we all get a break.
This is to some extent the result of Government Policy – the following response on record was apparently ignored: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201314/cmselect/cmtran/78/78vw12.htm
